Crofton Cemetery - Fareham

History and Description of Area
The cemetery is centered around a small modern-style church located within the older section of the grounds. From the church, paved paths extend in multiple directions, providing access throughout the cemetery.
In the older section, graves are positioned irregularly rather than in uniform rows. The headstones vary in size and style, ranging from small, simple markers to larger, more decorative monuments. Several large trees and bushes are present in this area, contributing to the overall landscaping.
A small bridge or walkway separates the older cemetery from the newer section. The newer cemetery features more organized, linear rows of graves, with headstones that are generally similar in style but vary in ornamentation. This section runs alongside a busy main road, resulting in noticeable noise pollution, particularly on the far side of the grounds.
Both sections include several children’s graves, many of which are decorated with brightly colored fairy lights, toys, and a mix of natural and artificial flowers.
Compared to the older section, the newer cemetery has fewer trees and shrubs within the burial areas, though various bushes and shrubs are planted around its perimeter.
Investigation Report
Arrival & First Impressions
Upon entering the cemetery, the team conducted a walkthrough of the immediate area. The atmosphere was notably varied—certain areas felt calm and quiet whilst others carried a heavier, more oppressive presence. The contrasts in energy were marked, changing within just a few steps.
As the team moved toward a prominent large tree, Laura observed what appeared to be a person walking along the path. The figure was described as looking around cautiously, as though waiting for someone. Laura shone her torch in their direction, but no one was visible—despite the figure being clearly seen seconds prior. There was no logical explanation for how a physical person could have moved or disappeared in that brief moment.
Large Tree Area – Old Cemetery
SLS Camera Evidence
Laura activated the SLS camera, which mapped several figures resembling human forms among the gravestones.
Notable observations:
-
Two figures appearing close to each other—one between two graves, the other near a headstone—moved in a rhythmic, almost dancing motion
-
One figure sat cross-legged on top of a headstone, occasionally appearing to rest its head in its hands
-
Laura physically inspected the headstones involved and found no environmental objects (leaves, twigs, tall plants) that might explain false positives
-
The figure believed to be "Lawrence," based on interaction with other equipment, was seen waving with its left hand when asked to confirm its name via movement
Device Interaction & Communication
A central area near the large tree was chosen for setup. A cat ball and K2 meter were placed on a nearby grave with additional devices distributed across the site. After approximately 15 minutes of calling out, both the cat ball and K2 meter began activating, flashing simultaneously. The team established a communication pattern: flashing indicated yes, no reaction indicated no. A male spirit confirmed his name as Lawrence and indicated he was buried in the grave nearest the equipment.
Physical Sensations & Movement
Before glasswork began, Ros reported being poked firmly in the back—no team member was within proximity to cause it. Moments later, movement was heard behind the group near a large bush just behind the central tree. Despite inspection, no animals or people were found. The rustling repeated multiple times. Eventually four team members surrounded the bush from all sides, yet no visible cause could be located. This was followed by the sound of footsteps approaching, which stopped suddenly just beside two investigators. Believing this to be a signal of displeasure, the team thanked the spirits and moved to a new location.
Extended Sessions – Upper and Lower Cemetery Zones
The team split into two smaller groups and moved to opposite ends of the cemetery.
Group One: Cat balls, K2 meters, and a small bell ball were placed. Billy the REM Bear was positioned near a tree. Word bank apps were used by Pete and Dan—while some words seemed relevant to ongoing conversations, most responses were non-specific or unclear.
Group Two: Laura continued using the SLS camera, capturing several anomalous figures. However, there were no audible responses or physical equipment activations in that zone.
New Cemetery Area
The team regrouped and entered the newer part of the cemetery. A bench was found for storing equipment. This area was larger and visually expansive—a sea of headstones—which invoked feelings of sadness and reflection among the team. Due to visibility and a nearby footpath, only minimal equipment was deployed (K2 meters, cat balls). Calling out resulted in no observable responses. A cyclist passed during the session, after which a spirit box was used. While several words and noises came through, most were garbled or difficult to interpret.
Ouija Session – "Olivia"
A Ouija board was set up while the spirit box continued running. No movement was detected during multiple energy-building sessions. However, the name "Olivia" was heard clearly through the spirit box.
A check of nearby graves revealed a well-maintained headstone bearing the name Olivia directly across from the team's location. Despite repeated efforts, no further responses were received.
Return to Old Cemetery – Final Session
On returning to the original site, the team noted a change in atmosphere—it felt lighter, more open, and less charged. A bench near the church was chosen for one final session. A cat ball placed on a grave across the path activated briefly but did not repeat.
Ouija Session
Upon opening the board, a rapid and forceful response came through, identifying itself as Lucy's grandmother ("Nan"). The board's messages became increasingly derogatory toward Lucy's partner, Dan, who was present. Based on the language and tone, the team concluded this was likely not Lucy's actual Nan, as the behaviour did not match her known personality. The session was closed respectfully, though the entity seemed agitated by the early ending.
This final session was broadcast live on the team's Facebook page.
Communication Experiments
SLS Camera (Old Cemetery)
Multiple figures captured throughout the investigation. Most notable were two figures moving in a dancing motion near graves, one figure sitting cross-legged on a headstone with head in hands, and "Lawrence" waving his left hand in response to questions. Physical inspection ruled out environmental false positives.
Cat Ball & K2 Communication (Old Cemetery)
Consistent simultaneous activation established communication with a male spirit identifying as Lawrence. Pattern established: activation for yes, no reaction for no. Spirit confirmed he was buried in the grave nearest the equipment.
Spirit Box (New Cemetery)
Mixed results with mostly garbled responses. Clear capture of the name "Olivia"—subsequently matched to a well-maintained headstone directly opposite the team's position.
Word Bank Apps (Upper/Lower Cemetery)
Used by Pete and Dan. Some words appeared relevant to conversation; most were non-specific or unclear.
Ouija Board (New Cemetery & Church Bench)
No movement in new cemetery despite energy-building attempts. Final session near the church produced rapid, forceful movement. Entity claimed to be Lucy's grandmother but displayed behaviour inconsistent with her known personality—derogatory toward Dan. Session closed respectfully; entity appeared agitated.
Auditory Phenomena
-
Rustling sounds from behind the group near large bush—repeated multiple times with no source found despite four investigators surrounding the area
-
Distinct footsteps approaching investigators, stopping suddenly beside them
-
Spirit box vocalisation clearly producing the name "Olivia"
-
Garbled words and noises through spirit box in new cemetery area

Conclusion
A highly active investigation at Old Crofton Cemetery yielding multiple forms of corroborated evidence across both the old and new sections of the grounds.
Notable Spirit Contacts:
-
Lawrence – Male spirit identified through K2 and cat ball communication, confirmed via SLS camera. Indicated he was buried in the grave nearest our equipment. Seen waving his left hand when asked to confirm his name. Interactive and responsive throughout the session.
-
The Dancing Figures – Two figures captured on SLS camera moving in rhythmic, dancing motions near the large tree. A third figure sat cross-legged atop a headstone, occasionally resting its head in its hands—suggesting a contemplative or sorrowful presence.
-
Olivia – Name clearly vocalised through spirit box, subsequently matched to a well-maintained headstone directly opposite the team. No further communication achieved despite repeated attempts.
-
The Deceptive Entity – Claimed to be Lucy's grandmother during final Ouija session but displayed behaviour entirely inconsistent with her known personality. Rapid, forceful board movement and derogatory messages toward Dan suggested this was not a genuine family connection. The entity's agitation at the session's closure reinforced the team's decision to end communication.
-
The Path Figure – Seen by Laura during the initial walkthrough, appearing to look around cautiously as though waiting for someone. Vanished instantly when torchlight was directed toward it—no physical person could have moved or hidden in that timeframe.
Key Evidence:
-
Visual sighting of figure on path—disappeared upon direct observation
-
Multiple SLS captures including interactive, waving figure (Lawrence)
-
Consistent cat ball and K2 activation establishing communication pattern
-
Physical touch experienced by Ros with no natural cause
-
Repeated rustling from bush with no source found despite full surrounding inspection
-
Footsteps approaching and stopping beside investigators
-
Spirit box vocalisation matching nearby headstone name (Olivia)
-
Rapid and forceful Ouija board activity with apparent deceptive entity
Overall: A compelling investigation demonstrating varied paranormal phenomena across different cemetery zones. The old cemetery proved significantly more active than the new section, with Lawrence emerging as a clear and communicative presence. The contrast between Lawrence's gentle interaction and the aggressive final Ouija session highlights the importance of discernment when spirits claim familiar identities. The team's decision to close the final session early demonstrated appropriate caution.
Following the emotionally intense final session and overall energetic drain, the team offered thanks to any spirits present and formally closed the evening, leaving the grounds in respectful silence.
