Description of Area

Large church graveyard with main path running through. Three entrances one at the top of the path, one at the base of the path and one side gate next to the parking area. Large church ruins with two separate entrances and two additional rooms from the main area of the church. One ‘penthouse’ tomb containing the remains of Squire Richard Cabell and family. One separate small building ruin believed to be an old monastery area.

Reported Possible Activity

Visuals of many apparitions including monks, Squire Eward Cabell and other miscellaneous men, women and children. Possible EVP (electromagnetic voice phenomenon). Chance of physical encounters. It has been reported that there are residual hauntings as well as intelligent hauntings at this location.

Brief Summary of History or Legend

Built in the 1600’s the local people believed that the devil was trying to prevent them from building the church. Squire Richard Cabell allegedly killed his wife, sold his soul to the devil and was known to be immoral among the local townspeople. It is reported that hell hounds were seen at his grave and that demonic creatures are regularly seen around his grave. In the 19th century the church graveyard was a popular site for grave robbers. In 1884 the church was set on fire by arsonists and was then restored. In 1992 the church was set on fire again but was ruined and not restored. Archaeological excavations in 2002 found medieval burials underneath the church itself.

Investigation Report

Arrival & First Impressions

Upon arrival at the site, we had not accounted for sunset timing and daylight remained. We used this opportunity to conduct a walkthrough so that everyone could familiarise themselves with the layout, the different areas we would be investigating, and the various hazards present on site.

Main Church Area

We set up our table in the main area of the church with cat balls, K2 meters, a trigger station (ball and flashlight), and our Ouija board. Ghost Tube app was also running throughout.

Ouija Board Session

A child spirit came through on the board. We established this was a child as they did not appear to recognise letters and answered using the sun and moon symbols for yes and no instead.

Through careful questioning, we established:

  • The child was buried on the site

  • They were not alone

  • They wanted help

During this session, Ghost Tube produced the words "kneel," "John," and "bribe" repeatedly. Additional words included "rituals," "why is he here," and "worried."

As we continued on the board, the spirit spelled out "SOS." We confirmed they needed help. Through continued conversation, lead investigators Ros and Mike helped the child and their family move toward the light. The child indicated they wanted to say goodbye and moved the planchette to "Goodbye" of their own accord. Following this, Ghost Tube repeatedly displayed the word "up." We closed the board and attempted to encourage further activity with trigger objects and equipment. As Derry was looking through her thermal imaging scope, Ghost Tube said "flashlight"—a notable coincidence given the equipment in use.

Side Entrance

We relocated to the side entrance area. Cat balls were placed at either doorway; the trigger station remained visible in the church from our new position. An EVP recorder and spirit box were set up in the entrance along with another Ouija board.

Spirit Box & EVP

We received a fair amount of activity through the spirit box. Numerous movement noises were heard throughout—to the extent that we believed other people must be on site. A thorough search found no one.

Physical Experience – Charlie

Whilst Derry and Charlie were seated in the entrance calling out, Charlie suddenly felt as though she was going to cry and experienced her whole body becoming very heavy. These feelings lasted approximately five minutes before disappearing altogether. During this time, the rest of the team were elsewhere on site taking photographs.

Monastery Building

We moved to the monastery building and set up trigger objects and equipment including K2 meters and cat balls. An EVP session was recorded.

Initially, no activity was detected. It was suggested we play monks chanting to try to increase activity.

Physical Experiences

Approximately three minutes into the chanting audio:

  • Charlie felt very heavy and uncomfortable again

  • Reece felt very sick

  • Ros felt as though her head was in a vice

We collectively decided to stop the recording and leave the area as the energy did not feel pleasant.

Altar Area

We returned to the church and set up a laser grid over the altar area along with cat balls, a K2 meter, and a ball.

Initial Observations

Activity was minimal initially, aside from movement noises behind us. A light anomaly was captured in photographs during this period.

Ouija Board Session

Someone came through for Charlie—a relative who expressed they were simply there to watch over her during the investigation.

We subsequently repositioned the laser grid to point toward the congregation area of the church. However, activity remained minimal.

Communication Experiments

Ouija Board (Main Church Area)
Extended session with a child spirit who communicated using sun and moon symbols rather than letters. Spirit confirmed they were buried on site, not alone, and needed help. Spelled "SOS" before being assisted toward the light by lead investigators Ros and Mike. Spirit independently moved planchette to "Goodbye."

Ouija Board (Altar Area)
Brief session. A relative came through for Charlie, indicating they were present to watch over her during the investigation.

Spirit Box (Side Entrance)
Fair amount of activity received. Multiple responses captured though specific words not detailed.

Ghost Tube App (Main Church Area)
Repeated words included "kneel," "John," "bribe," "rituals," "why is he here," "worried," and "up." Notably said "flashlight" as Derry was using thermal imaging equipment.

EVP (Multiple Locations)
Sessions recorded in side entrance and monastery building. [Results pending review.]

Trigger Objects (Multiple Locations)
Ball and flashlight station deployed. Minimal direct interaction observed.

Auditory Phenomena

  • Numerous movement noises heard in side entrance—extensive enough to prompt a search for other visitors (none found)

  • Movement noises heard behind the team in the altar area

Environmental & Physical Effects

Charlie:

  • Sudden overwhelming urge to cry with whole body becoming very heavy (Side Entrance)—lasted approximately five minutes before disappearing suddenly

  • Felt very heavy and uncomfortable again when monks chanting was played (Monastery Building)

Reece:

  • Felt very sick when monks chanting was played (Monastery Building)

Ros:

  • Felt as though her head was in a vice when monks chanting was played (Monastery Building)

Team:

  • Collective decision to leave monastery building due to unpleasant energy

  • Light anomaly captured in photographs at altar area

Equipment:

  • Ghost Tube producing relevant words throughout main church session

  • Spirit box activity in side entrance

  • Minimal trigger object interaction

Conclusion

A productive investigation yielding significant spirit communication and notable physical experiences across multiple areas of the site.

Notable Spirit Contacts:

  • The Child Spirit – Communicated via Ouija board using sun and moon symbols rather than letters, suggesting either very young age or unfamiliarity with written language. Confirmed they were buried on site, not alone, and in need of help. The desperate "SOS" message and subsequent assistance toward the light by Ros and Mike provided a poignant and potentially meaningful interaction. The child's independent move to "Goodbye" suggested a peaceful resolution.

  • Charlie's Relative – Came through briefly during the altar area Ouija session, indicating they were present simply to watch over Charlie during the investigation—a protective, reassuring presence.

  • Unknown Presence (Monastery Building) – The collective physical symptoms experienced by Charlie, Reece, and Ros when monks chanting was played suggest a strong reactive presence in this area. The unpleasant nature of the energy prompted the team to withdraw—a sensible precaution.

Key Evidence:

  • Child spirit communication via Ouija with "SOS" message and assisted crossing

  • Ghost Tube producing contextually relevant words including "flashlight" whilst thermal imaging in use

  • Spirit box activity in side entrance

  • Movement noises heard with no identifiable source despite thorough search

  • Collective physical symptoms in monastery building triggered by monks chanting audio

  • Sudden emotional and physical sensations experienced by Charlie in side entrance

  • Light anomaly captured in photographs at altar area

Activity by Area:

The side entrance proved most active for spirit box and EVP communication. The main church area yielded the most significant Ouija interaction. The monastery building, whilst producing minimal equipment responses, generated the strongest physical reactions from team members. The altar area remained relatively quiet throughout.

Overall: A good night's investigation with varied evidence gathered across the site. The most compelling interaction was undoubtedly the child spirit's communication and subsequent crossing—a reminder that investigative work can sometimes offer more than evidence gathering.
